Lana Del Rey's Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd

The fresh track is a quintessential Lana Del Rey song with gentle piano and violins as the main musical element which calls back to her previous work. The melody can be heard as softer than perhaps her harsher sound in her album Born To Die, which came out in 2012 and threw her into popularity. She has stuck to her working aesthetic with a slight softening, aiming more towards a poetic tone. Lana has been writing poetry recently and sharing some of it via social media, and it is evident she has incorporated her writing into her music. The lyrics in 'Did You Know There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd' are an insight into Lana's experience with loneliness, calling out in the chorus 'when is it going to be my turn?' It's not akin to the themes she has explored before but with a lighter approach, woven in with her abstract references such as 'hotel California.' Lana has done what she does best and has paired her vocals with beautiful harmonies that never fail to invoke an emotional response in the listener, although keeping the same pace throughout the song. There is a seemingly nice surprise at the end with a rise in the sound and soul-esque backing vocals that are not her own. If you are an avid Lana Del Rey fan, this track will certainly satisfy the Lana craving. It is a taste of what's to come in the next album, due to come out later this year. On the other hand, she has kept with her usual sound and there doesn't seem to be any hint of Lana experimenting with her style any time soon.
